The Globalization of Taekwondo
The 2nd International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies
Two days prior to the opening of the 2009 WTF World Taekwondo Championships at the Ballerup Super Arena, “The 2nd International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies” was held. The symposium was jointly organised by the World Taekwondo Federation, Kyung Hee University in Korea and the University of Copenhagen.Monday, 12th of October about 150 academics and dignitaries were gathered to at the Scandic Hotel Copenhagen. Professor Hans Bonde of the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, University of Copenhagen, gave a lecture about why many modern people direct their attention to Oriental martial arts such as taekwondo.
Moreover, among other speakers PhD Jesper L. Andersen, senior researcher at the Institute of Sports Medicine Copenhagen, delivered a key-note speech under the topic “Strength Training: How Does It Affect Our Muscles?”. The key-note speech was followed by four academic sessions.
Tuesday, 13th of October the symposium moved to the Department of Exercise and Sports Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Posters were presented by students and scientists from e.g. South Korea, Canada, Iran and Great Britain and topics related to taekwondo were discussed in the foyer of the August Krogh Institute.
The 2009 WTF World Taekwondo Championships takes place in the Ballerup Super Arena form Wednesday, 14th of October to Sunday, 18th of October.
