Multicultural Societies: The integrative role of sport

Motivational climate and leadership style are linked to integration

Sport participation, and in particular organized sports, is an important socializing agent because of the large number of participants that are attracted. The first results from a European project investigating the integrative role of sports in five European countries were presented during the European Congress of Sport Psychology in Madeira.

Results highlight the importance of the sport club's motivational climate and the coach's democratic leadership for the integration of young sport club members with a non-dominant cultural background.
