Mindfulness meditation and complementary and alternative medicine

This project is part of a larger research project about alternative medicine at University of Copenhagen (www.kufab.dk).

The aim of this part of the project is to explore the experiences of participants in mindfulness meditation (MM) courses.

The data consists of 3 times 16 interviews for each form of treatment, observational notes diaries of the clients and treatment interviews. The purpose is to describe when a treatment is ‘working' and if so, how the effect is experienced by the client in question and what kind of narratives the client draws up about the progress of the treatment and about the challenges to his or her health and well-being (e.g. stress, mild depression, the structuring of the daily life).

The project is backed by the Knowledge and Research Center for Alternative Medicine.

The project has been running since 2006 and is expected to continue for two more years.

Head of project: Reinhard Stelter
In collaboration with: Inge Kryger Petersen, Charlotte Baarts and Bo Jacobsen from the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen.
