Health discourses and physical (in)activity among Danish youth

The aim of this PhD project is to achieve in-depth insight into and understanding of the discourses and processes, which can support or hinder a physical active life style among young people. Furthermore, the aim is to investigate how young people create meaning about their own physical activity, as well as that of others, and how they attach importance to living a physical active or inactive life.

In the project a gender perspective is applied through a study of the dominating understandings of gender among the adolescents as regards physical activity and health.

The young people’s experiences, practices, attitudes and motivations in relation to physical activity and health will be examined through qualitative individual interviews as well as focus group interviews with students between 16-20 years, from different youth educations.
The PhD project is partially financed by the UNIK - project "Food, Fitness and Pharma", http://www.foodfitnesspharma.ku.dk/
